The 122 West Leigh Street location of the BHMVA, the nation’s only 19th-century armory built for an African-American militia, serves as a visual reminder of the rich history and culture of Richmond’s African-American community. The Valentine location has been collecting, preserving, and interpreting Richmond’s 400-year history for over a century and is nestled in the heart of historic downtown.
